Print Error

By Larry Barton ·
This combination worked OK when the OS was Win98SE.

OS is Windows NT Workstation v4.0 SP4. I did not update to SP6 because of a documented problem with Outlook Express v5

Printer is HP DJ693C

Application is MS Works v4.5

When attemptingto print a word processor document (new or existing), I get an error message that the page format is different from the printer setup, i.e., orientation, size, etc. If you tell it OK, it will go ahead and print; however, you can't print multiple copies of the document. And, the setings ARE the same for orientation, size, etc.

Thanks,

Larry Barton

Sounds like it could be a software/driver problem. The following URL has drivers for NT40 "http://www.hp.com/cposupport/swindexes/dj693c_swen.html". It fixed the problem I was having with my printer (DJ693C)and NT4.0 workstation. But I am also using SP5 on my workstation.

Sorry - I didn't mention that I've already done that - would you by chance have the original installation diskettes for that printer? Mine grew legs and walked!

Also, I have an IEEE1284 bi-directional cable, and have changed CMOS, trying all available options (SP, EPP, ECP, etc) for LPT1.

And, of course, I've changed page setup within Works.

I'll see if I can find SP5 and try that.

Thanks,

You're better off that your original diskettes walked off if they are win98 drivers, as Win98 is a DOS kernel based system, NT is not. You will definitely need NT drivers... if not available, try WIN2000 drivers... same kernel, might work for you.
This is just one of the little quirks involved in changing from one OS to another. I'm not familiar with MS works 4.5... was that designed for WIN9x or the newer NT/2000 OS? Your problem might lie within the application, and not entirely with your print drivers. Check microsoft for an upgrade that might bring your application in line with your operating system if it is the older version.

Thanks for the reply. I chekced w/Microsoft early on. The version of MS Works I have has the latest update.

My reference to the original installation diskettes was intended to use the NT driver that (I think) came on those diskettes, along with Win 3.1 & 9x.

I'll try Win2K driver.

Thanks,

Larry

I looked on HP's Website, and they don't list a driver for this printer for Win2K.
