Print spooler/Print buffer

By wanhiap ·
We use Window NT for our Network software with Compaq Proliant 3000 engine. Recently, I observed from the Event Log file that whenever one Printer in the building is jambed with papers or having a print job greater than the Print buffers, other printers in the building are held up until you physically clear the problem with that particular printer. What do think might be the cause, how can this problem be solved.

Print spooler/Print buffer

We had the same problem when the spooler got overloaded. I would check to see if other protocols are being used in the network, DLC, IPX, Appletalk, Browser broadcasts. We had a problem with Fieries and Canon printers because of the size of these jobs and other unnecessary protocols. Check the Ram and make sure the pagefile is 1-1/2 the RAM. (we set ours on a separate partition) Once the jobs tie up the spooler, the space on the print server continues to queue up. Check if this server is being used for file/application/WINS/DHCP, etc. Sounds like the RAM and pagefile need to be increased. Check the C:\WINNT\... spooler file, making sure there is ample space on the C drive to hold the spooler when it overloads. Sincerely, KL
