I have a HP 820cxi that keeps saying I have the wrong size paper in it. It’s the same I’ve used for several years. I can get one good print and then it’s the wrong size until I turn off the computer, unplug the printer and start over. HP has no answer except send it in. I’ve reloaded the drivers and updates several times. Win98Second Ed. What next?

I know this may sound obvious but have you checked that the program that you are printing from has the page size set correctly.

HP is right. The 820s had a bad optical paper sensor. The only way to fix it yourself is to scavange the sensor off of another bad (in another way) 820.

Before you start taking the printer apart, try using a different parallel cable, if you haven’t already. This solved a couple of printer ‘problems’ in our old, dusty, office environment. The printers would work fine for years, then suddenly start misbehaving. The problems would manifest themselves in different ways, and is now one of the checks we always carry out before involving engineers.

      Good luck!
