Printer Availability

By JohnHiltz ·
We run Windows 2003 servers and XP clients.

I need to know if there is a way to make certain network printers unavailable to certain users during certain times. Please advise.

As far as I know it is only possible to make a printer (or print queue, however you want to call it) (un)available during a specified time. You can't set it per user group.
There might be some 3rd party utilities that achieve this, but if that's not an option, you could create a seperate print queue per user group.

if you go into the printer properites, the advanced tab will allow you to change the time that the printer is avaiable. Depending on your active directory structure, you can create security groups and then assign users to the group and use the security tab in the printer properties to restrict access to whichever printer for whichever group
