How do you set up a printer directory structure when you are set up to a hub?

Printer directory

Need more info. What kind of printer is it? Are you using an HP Jet-Direct or another kind of printer server? Is you're network client/server or peer to peer?

To make a tree for network printers on you're network, if you're using an HP jet direct, you have to install the Jet Direct software on you're server and it will find printers on you're network connected to jet direct print servers. you then share those printers and they appear as objects in you're server's share tree.

If you are using any other kind of print server, or are not in an enviroment where you can set up a PC to be the server, you have to connect to the IP address of the printer. This can be done (at least in Win2K) by setting up a local printer, saying, "create newport" select "TCP/IP port" and basicly map an LPT port to the IP address of the printer, assign a driver and you're done. Can't browse a printer tree without something populating the browser list, and you're average print server doesn't do that.

Note:
by printer server, I'm talking about a small box with a paralell port on one end, and a 10baseT port on the other. The printer and network both plug into this device. It is normally configured by a telnet session to it's IP address. A print server can also be a card installed in a printer, making it LAN compadible.

Knowledge is of two kinds. We know a subject ourselves, or we know where we can find information on it.
