Printer driver crashes in XP

By info ·
Working on a network at the minute for an architect. There are four PCs networked, and 2 printers which are attached to jet direct boxes. 2 of these PC's run NT4, 1 on 2000 and 1 on XP. All PC's will print except the 1 running XP, it has problems printing to an HP Designjet 500. It will print a test page from windows fine, but as soon as you try to print from Autocad 2005 an error message is displayed to say the driver caused an error and had to close, leaving nothing printed.

I have changed the printer drivers to the latest from HPs website, I have tried printing direct IP to it, I have attached it to the back of another PC and shared it out. All to no avail. The XP PC used to print fine, and all the other pcs still do. The XP PC is also the only 1 running Autocad 2005.

I'm tearing my hair out!

Try the following link:

Probably the first in the list of nine will be the answer (use windows driver instead of the autocad driver).

Your problem is that you installed the printer driver under windows, but your AutoCAD use a different driver. This will cause a conflict when you want to print from AutoCAD. The solution is to set up the printer driver to AutoCAD, or force the AutoCAD to use windows printer settings.

Tried this too, to no avail. Eventually got a solution from cause from autodesk. When printing from a long file path it crashes the driver. Only solution was to copy the required drawing to the root of the C Drive and print from there
