Printer Drivers

By wayne ·
I have a client who is using Windows ME on 2 computers. They have an Epson printer on one and a HP on the other, and they share both printers. Every 2 days it seems when they go to print it gives them an error message that no printer drivers are installed, it is loosing the drivers. This is baffling me as I have to delete and remove the printer and drivers and reinstall it. This has happeded twice, they have no viruses and I found no problems with the pc.

Make sure that you dowloaded the latest printer drivers from the HP & Epson sites for Win ME.
Boot up in safe mood and then remove the printer drivers.
Install the downloaded drivers,

You only have to have one corrupt file to stuff up a printer and i would point at your HP driver. Replace it with a differnet/OLDER version, simple driver.
Look at what other applications are running in the background and what applications they use to print from. We had a HP monitoring program that stuufed the print drivers every couple of weeks, once we installed the simple driver with no software it worked well.
Are they running profiles at all, if they are diable the profiles and see if it improves, it might come down to what they log in as on the pc that causes it to fail.

is the client using packard-bell computers?
my son was having the same problem with an EPSON STYLUS 900, and in frustration, bought a new printer, and gave me the old one. i installed the printer, and ran it for several days, without a hint of a problem. i am, and have always used generic, or 'clones', and i have had no problem, what so ever. does this make sense to anyone?

I've seen simular type problems with windows just forgetting the printers are there. Make sure that they reboot the computers ever so many days and make sure that no one is installing any new software (like Adobe Writer) also make sure that they arelogging on correctly all the time. if also make sure they are booting up in the correct sequence so that the mapped printers show up.
