Printer Failure: Disconnected/Not Responding (?)

by jestmejc . Updated 17 years, 1 month ago

Since yesterday my HP Printer 4100 Series has made noises like it was about to print, only to stop. Occasionally it actually begins to move paper through the spool, but not in the normal fashion. When the paper comes out, it is completely blank. This morning a page came out with a large, wide rectangular block of blank ink, which appeared to be a heading to a story, but nothing else was printed. When I go to HP Solutions from my Desktop, and click Print, I am told that the printer is either not responding or disconnected. Have turned off computer, unplugged printer, and then rebooted, plugged back in, and am still having the same problem. Seems like the computer memory may be part of the problem. When I go to the properties section and scroll down, I note the “connect” option is shaded. This must mean something, but I am at a complete loss as to what exactly.
