Printer Hangs intermittantly (~72bytes)

By an_it_guy ·
Hi.
Have seen this problem in two three HP printers (USB), installed on WinXP Pro systems.
I have a WinXPP, installed with a new HP OJ 5510, works well most of the times. It randomly chooses to not print any document and hangs, when we see the Queue, it shows "Size - 72bytes/(150kb)"!
I try to restart the Print Spooler service, but in vain! What does this mean? What is the problem?
I have seen this problem in HP 3325/3420 printers as well.
The same pending document prints fine once i restart the computer.
Please let me know what is the problem and how to workaround?
Have tried HP's method of uninstalling & then reinstalling the printer solftware from the below link, but still no use.

Kindly let me know what causes this problem.
Thanks in advance.

Do you have USB 2.0 ports on your PC? I had a lot of trouble with an HP printer on a USB 1.0 port and eventually installed a Belkin 2.0 card and the hang/blue screen problems went away.

The printer is installed on a DELL2350 recently purchased, i beleive it should be having USB2.0.
I tried checking it under Device manager, but it shows the USB controllers without any version. how do i check it?
