printer icon on taskbar

By highlander718 ·
while printing (while the job is sitting in a queue) a printer icon shows up on the taskbar (notification area). Actualy, for some user it does, for some it doesn't. Is this something controlled by a setting ? Is it only showing up when something else is waiting in the queue ?

This is normal when you send something to the printer. A lot of the time it will appear briefly and then disappear. It will appear longer if you are printing something large or have a number of print jobs queuing up. Also if there is a problem e.g. out of paper or communnication problem with the printer, you will see the printer icon with a yellow exclamation point or red question mark over it.

I have had the same problem with XP and some users. I have not found any help on this. And it is not user specific, the user will see the icon pass quickly sometimes and not others. Even if set to show the icon and notify when the job is printed, sometimes the icon does not show up, and sometimes it does. It appears to be a flaw in XP.

Thanks, obviously it didn't help me fixing the problem, but at least I have another feedback on this :-))
