Printer installation blocked

By wizuurd ·
I have discovered I can no longer install any printer driver onto my desktop (Presario, XP Home, SP2)
I have tried installing multi printers - as 'local' on muli USB ports, and as 'networked'. At best, after all drivers are installed, I try the "test print' and get the error "The printer was not installed..." And have also rec'd the error msg: Cannot install this hardware. There was a problem installing this hardware OfficeJet 7200 series. An error occurred during the installation of the device. The class installer denied the request to install or upgrade this device.
I have dug through the registry to ensure I couldn't find a "Disable" key that was blocking, to no avail. Thoughts?

Well you've said the Magic Words here USB MS has recently developed several Security Patched that cover USB Ports and prevent their use in an unauthorized manner. The trouble is that installing new USB Hardware is at first considered as Unauthorized as there is no previous notice that this is an accepted device.

For some background on this you can read a TR Discussion Thread at

But short of backing up all your DATA and doing a reinstall without adding the most recent Security Patches I don't know of any workaround for this issue.

As HAL said USB sometimes acts weird...
Be sure you putting the USB contacts in when you installation say you have to (not before) and some devices need to be wired on the USB after the USB is in the computer and some before.

Took me once a week to find out that I need to put the usb in my phone after the PC.
