Sounds like a problem with the printer driver and the spooler service. Which printer do you have?

Printer Not Responding

by chris.arbon In reply to

I too am having the same printer error with a range of HP Printers M2727 ,3035 and 3390

I get the error when trying to print from word and printing from excell is very slow.

We recently migrated to active directory and exchange 2007. Prior the migration the 2727,3390 and 3035 printers worked fine but post migration everything went slower.

Other changes in our environment around this time was installing McAfee Antivirus and marimba monitoring agents.

Changing the printer drivers on these printers to an earlier (simpler) printer driver such as HP Laserjet 4 Plus fixes the problem. This was the recommendation of our printer supplier who commented that more recent HP Printer drivers have become hopelessly bloated with performance suffering. HP should realise that the main requirment of the customer is speed.

Go to Run--Services.msc and stop the Print Spooler service--reboot. Restart the Print Spooler service.

If the problem still persists, you will need to completely uninstall your printer drivers before reinstalling them. Some drivers, like HP can't be properly uninstalled from Control Panel (and sometimes not by their own uninstaller).

Post your printer model if you need further help uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers.
