Printer lost on re-boot

by dcoyle . Updated 23 years, 11 months ago

Seen this a few times but can’t figure the real solution: PC running w2000, has local (NEC) printer installed on LPT1. Drivers seem to be fine. However, on re-boot, the PC seems to lose the printer. I go to Device Manager>d/click PrinterPort (LPT1)>Port settings. I change any of the settings there to another setting, eg. from “use any interupt assigned to the port” to say, “Try not to use an interupt”…and the printer works again…until re-boot, where it gets lost once more! Then, try theproceedure above once more, and it works.
I haven’t tried to re-install the driver, yet. The settings in the BIOS look correct (LPT port enabled); the PC has Service Pack 2 installed.
My guess is it is an older PC, and some things have got messed up, over the years. If anyone has a solution without having to do anything “radical”, be much appreciated!
