Printer Ports Missing

By RBobcat ·
I have a 2k server, I am trying to setup network printers. When you go into printer setup to assign a port or set up a new port, they are missing, NADA. They show up in Device Manager. When I try to set up a new port I keep getting an error.
I was having trouble setting up the printers, so I downloaded HP Jetdirect Admin thinking it would help. When I realized it was no help I deleted it, a window popped up asking if I wanted to delete everything associated with it and answered yes to the question. Thats when I noticed all the ports had disappeared.

You need to install the TCP/IP Printing serivces if you are just need NT/W2K printing support. If you need to print to printers on Unix side then you need lpr support.

Also check spooler is set to running.

You may have to check your registry too, W2K has a bad habit of caching this information in the registry to prevent you from creating, renaming, or deleting ports. Just do a search on the IP address and you will find the section.

You can also try and re-install Jet Admin to regain some functionality while you troubleshoot this.
