printer ports on win2000Pro

By jmajcher ·
Windows 98 allows you to capture a printer port to lpt1. This enables me to redirect text from dos to a networked printer on jetdirect. I could enter the command "type filename >lpt1: and the text file would print. How do I accomplish this on win2kPro

use the net use command to "capture" the printer port. for example, to capture a printer named print1 on a server named srv1, enter the following command:

net use lpt1: \\srv1\print1 /persistent:yes

this will capture the printer to the lpt port. this works for both microsoft and novell printers/queues.
