Printer Problems

By Jeff Anderson ·
I have a weird one going on. I have a user who used to print to a printer we will call A. They now print to a printer called B. The two printer are different hp laserjets.(4050 and 4100). I removed her original printer(A) and set her up to print on printer (B). Occassionally not always her printout shows up on printer (A). I have no idea what is happening but it needs fixed. These are both network printer loaded on the same server.

In her printer properties find and click, "End capture" the printer may be capturing printer A's port.

If the job got printed in A instead of B, there's should be a logon profile that is routing the printer to A.
If it said that the job is being printing in A but the job spools at B, it's a cosmetic error!, something must still be defined as priter A, such a port

I assume to are still using both printers on the network. I have had this happen a few times and I am sure there is more than one cause but mine was simple. When the user prints jobs some programs will print to the last printer and not the default printer until you change the printing in the application. Some applications you have to specify a printer and it prints there regardless. So if it is happening occasionaly, find out what app is doing it, and then look at the print set up before you print. If this is the cause simply point the app to the right printer.
