Printer Subsystem

The printer Subsystem is unavailable. this is the reply when I try to add printers (no wizard )win 2000 Sp2,upgraded DirectX 8.1 lost all printers, safe mode same thing, boot to repair disk & repair no help,restarted spoolsv.exe no help.
