Printers automatically installed

By lkimmes ·
I am setting up several XP machines which log onto a Netware 6 server and are also part of a NT4 domain. I have several lexmark lasers printers which are being automatically installed. These are network printers and printers hung off of a 98 box. Does anyone know why this is happening. I do not want all my users to have access to these printers.

Printers automatically installed

maybe you need to turn off the new 'feature' in XP, remote desktop connection:
this is excerpted from microsoft knowledgebase article # 300698:
To use the Remote Desktop Connection, click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, click Communications, and then click Remote Desktop Connection.

The features are:
Network Printer Redirection
Network printer redirection enables you to have network printers that are installed on the local computerto be redirected in the Remote Desktop session. You can send print jobs to your network printer without having to make configuration changes, or install additional printers. This feature can be disabled from the Local Resources tab of the Remote Desktop client.
the other thing i can think of is to not give XP users local 'power user' rights. that gives them the right to install printers.
hope it helps
