Printers Migration from NT4 to 2003

By alexr ·
I'm trying to migrate printers from NT4 server to Server 2003 by using Printer Migrator 3.1.
During restore process on 2003 I stuck with error :
"Kernel Mode drivers (version 2) are blocked on the target machine. Disable Kernel Mode driver blocking and re-run Printer Migrator".

Have anybody come accross this problem?

I did

We have HP Laserjet 5si printers and ran into the same problem. A new printer driver - we used PCL 6 - fixed the problem.

Do you mean reinstall ( update ) drivers on NT4 and run backup Migrator again?

I'm not sure if that would work correctly

I would try one printer to see if it would work that way. We migrated the printers as they were and updated the drivers on 2003 instead.

I finally decided install all these printers from scratch and don't use migration utility.
I'm afraid of installation old drivers on new machine.
Thank You anyway:)

i've one solution

by sbmsc In reply to Printers Migration from N ...

try this command :

You can disable that in group policy.

Start->run->gpedit.msc

The policy is defined under Computer Configuration->Administrative
Templates->Printers

Look for the setting "Disallow installation of printers using kernel-mode
drivers". It should be 'Not Configured' (it's enabled by default). Set it
to 'disable'.

That was I looking for.
But after contemplation I decided to be on the safe side and install everithing from scratch.
Nobody knows how that story with kernel-mode drivers might be turned out.
Thank You.

Worked Great

This worked great. As soon as i disabled it, i ran the Print Migration again, and it ran without a hitch. 47 printers installed in less than five minutes. All the configurations, and summary data were included. Now i just have to test the queues.
