When a user that I support prints a pdf file, it comes out with no spaces between the words. How do I fix this.

I've seen that problem before and it was related to a printer driver problem. What kind of printer is it? The user who had the problem here was printing to a HP LaserJet 5 but I had to switch them to the HP LJ5P (notice the P) printer driver to correct this problem. Go figure. I can't explain it but it solved the problem. Hope this helps.

Quite simply, Adobe does not understand font metrics. They swap their own font(s) without warning and there is no way to deactivate this feature. Considering their printer drivers "proprietary," a number of manufacturers are attempting to reverse engineer them for a resolution, especially the fax-server houses.

I have experienced both screen and print problems with PDF files. Since Adobe is basically a Mac house, their tech support is about as clue-full as an AOL user on a Mac.

Pete offers reasonable advice with regard to the "P" driver. The "P" stands for PostScript (can you say Mac?) You may have to purchase a PostScript cartridge for the printer.

While I have not solved the problem of footnotes appearing on the wrong page(s), opening -> Start ->Settings ->Printers, selecting the printer, then Properties and changing from Vector Graphics to Raster Graphics. (Can you say Mac mind-set?) You may have to change the Fonts setting from Download asTrueType to BitMaps.

It is a pain to have to constantly swap between Vector and Raster especially after printing 200 pages of kindling because the pagination changes.

There is also a difference between a file produced on a Mac and an Intel machine.

For distribution of academic or legal documents, I print to Exchange and the produce the paper from the resulting PDF. Royal PITA.

I have seen this problem a lot. It was to do with printer drivers. Download the lastest printer drivers and try each one until it works. I have seen a driver work with one PC and not work on another.
