PRINTING A TABLE OF CONTENTS IN EXPLORER

By trmartin ·
I would like to be able to capture a TOC for importation into Excel, so that I can manipulate it for sorting or printing. Has anyone been able to do this, or been able to just print a TOC without doing a screen print?

Are you trying to print a list of files in a Windows Explorer folder? If so, go to a DOS command line and run the following:
DIR > thisdir.txt

This will create a file named thisdir.txt in the folder which contains the list of files. Of course you do not have to name the file thisdir.txt it can be named anything. The > symbol is used to pipe the results from the DIR command to a file instead of to the screen. You can then import the txt file into Excel.
