Printing control

By wan_fai ·
Hi,

I am a network administrator in a company. We have a system that stores all design drawing files. All staff should have right to read those files. However, we want to control some user groups can ONLY read, but cannot print the drawing out. Can I do that?

We are using hardware print server.

Thanks
Fai

Fai,
I believe that if you grant a user 'Read' access, they can do whatever they want once it is on their system (they just can't save a modified file over or delete the original).
Depending on what software you are using to create/view/print the drawings, you can have it print a 'watermark' on the drawing so that it can't be used for the wrong purposes.

I understand that it is difficult to control. I am looking for some solutions that can drop the print request in the OS level (or other methods) when the user/hostname is on list reader list. Anyway, thanks for your answer.
