Printing DOS based data with Win2kPro

By madeinmontana ·
I have a Win2kPro machine, recently replaced a Win98 machine, that uses a DOS based program for printing out price quotes. Win98 used to print these just fine, right now. Win2kPro wont print the documents, directly. Is there an easier way to print these pages directly, without having to print to another file first? Thank you in advance!

Depends on how your application works. One way to do it is:

copy file.txt \\server\printer

Where file.txt is what you want to print and \\server is the name of a print server and printer is the name of the print queue.

You could probably put this in a batch file to automate it.

Did you set up LPT1 on the Win2K machine to point to a network printer? If not, then you need to do that, then print from DOS to LPT1.
Open a command prompt window and type:
NET USE LPT1 \\SERVER1\SHAREDPRINTERNAME /PERSISTENT:YES

That will mapLPT1 to one of your shared network printers (replacing the name of your print server and shared printer name for the examples).

Hope this helps.

had tried this but it didnt work either, and actually caused all printing to get lost in the print queue. even windows based printing, nothing would print.
