    Printing from DOS

    Locked

    by awallis ·

We are on a WAN, queue based printing (no printers hooked up to the back of a computer). A small percentage of my users cannot print from DOS, but most have that capability. We are all, however, able to print from Windows. We all belong to a Netware group called “Everyone” who shares login scripts and has rights to print from the DOS based programs. any suggestions?

      Method 1
Establish a persistent connection using NET.EXE. To do so, use the following syntax at a command prompt:
      net use lpt: \\\ /persistent:yes
      Method 2
Print directly to the printer share by using the followingsyntax at a command prompt:
      print /d:\\\ :\\
Because Novell NetWare’s CAPTURE command is not supported in Windows NT 4.0, use the following command to map the LPT port to a Novell NetWare printer queue:
      net use lpt \\server\queue
If the LPT port is redirected successfully, the following message should appear:
      The command completed successfully.
To disconnect persistent LPTx connections, use the following syntax:
      net use lpt
      /delete

Try this on one workstation first. Delete the printer and then add it back. When asked if printing from MS-DOS answer ‘yes’ and then capture the printer port. Reboot and try printing from DOS. It worked for me!
