Printing Performance

By jkeav634 ·
Problem printing on NT SP6a. Pentium 500MHz 256 MB Ram. User sends print job to Hp laserjet 4 and it takes about 5 minutes for the job to stop printing(not large documents, even test page does it). I checked the Performance monitor and see that the SPOOLSS.EXE is taking up 100% cpu resources. Tried reapplying the SP and still having trouble

Try finding the newest driver for your printer. Also try deleting the printer and adding it again.

Microsoft claims this was fixed with SP5....

You may want to re-apply the service pack. If that doesn't help, I would update your printer drivers to the newest version, go under printer properties, details, and check your spool settings. Check the LTP settings (both in windows and in the BIOS).

I gather if you run a printer self-test it works normally? Is it slow printed directly fromthe server?

How is the printer hooked up? By a JetDirect card, to a parallel port, etc? Has it always had this behavior on this system, or did something change? Was new hardware/software installed prior to the change?

Give me a few more details and I'll try to help further. Good Luck!
