Laser printers

by mjd420nova In reply to printing problem

All laser type printers are pretty much the same. They have four major parts. The laser, the transfer wire, the fuser and the paper transport. The image is drawn onto a rotating photo sensitive drum. The image can be placed by either a laser drawing in it or some use LED's. Once the image is drawn, the toner is deposited electro-statically onto it, it rolls over what looks like a channel with a very small wire down the middle of it. This is the corona tranfer wire. It is charged with around 300 volts DC, it will attract the toner image off of the drum, but the paper gets in the way. Next the paper passes thru the fuser, a high temperature lamp in a teflon coated tube. This heat fuses the toner to the paper. A faint image could be a dirty laser window or LED array.
Another could be dirty contacts between the toner/drum cartridge and the chassis. This is usually small metal brush contacts where it slides into the unit. Another cause is the tranfer wire broken. Look closely in the channel and see if the wire is intact, and check for a solid wire connector on one end. The wire can be replaced is you have patience and know how to work behind a large magnifier. Kind of like tying flies. Check zerox's web site, the may have down loadable manuals and sometimes hits and tips.
