Here goes: I am running Win98 on an old Dell P200 desktop. There is a DOS program that I use for templates in a bookeeping program. The printer is a HPDeskJet 1000C and it is the primary Windows printer. The driver is updated to the latest one from the HP site.
The problem I am having is that whenever I try to print from the program, the machine either locks up, the print job is finished, or at other times nothing happens at all. I am starting to think that the HP Spooler has something to dowith my troubles because usually that will lock up as well.
I have tried changing the driver inside the program, I have also changed the settings of the parallel port (including using ECP)in the BIOS. (As well as uninstalling the port, printer, and re-installing them both). Would it be a solution to use a bi-directional cable, or might it have something to do with the spooling process? I have tried a great many things.. Thanks for your help!!
