Printing problems

I have a networked printer that will only print garbled symbols and will not print documents sent through the network. I have an NT server working with Win 98 machines. The printer is an HP 870cse. I have purged the documents on the server and I reset the printer many times. I even rebooted the server. Should I do a reinstall of the printer on the server? Thanks
