Printing Problems with Win98 se

By doc7213 ·
I have a Windows 98 machine on a network with a Unix box and there are 4 network printers on this network. This is a brand new Dell Dimension PIII 600 MHz, 128 Ram, 20 Gig HD, 56 Modem. Anyway, I can not print from any Windows, or Dos programs to any of the network printers. I have reinstalled all printers and drivers. The printers all work fine from any of the other workstations.
I have redone the network settings, just in case, and nothing seems to work. I would appreciatte any possible suggestions.

I don't know what type of printer you are using, but check the printer port setup in the bios and make sure that it is set to defaults (SPP). If it is set to anything else, (ECP, etc), this may be enough to cause the printer to give errors instead of printouts.

There is a solution available called ACIT's. It add's LPR to a Win 9x machine. It allows you to print to the IP of the printer directly without having to go through a NT or Unix Server. A University of Texas student wrote the program. If you have difficulties finding it let me know and I could email you a copy.
