printing problems with xp and adobe

By RG11 ·
I have a folder on a nt 4.0 server that has .pdf files at our main site. At a satellite site connected by a t1 I have an xp pro computer on the network. We are pulling files from that folder on the network drive. I have adobe 5.0 on the xp box. When I am on the xp machine and goto the network folder, then select all, then print, I am trying to print all files in one shot to a lj5si but not all the pdf files print. The folder contains around 45 pdf documents and not all of them print out unless I print them one by one. Does anyone have any suggestions....

That's too much data for the printers memory to handle at one time. Look at the properties of the folder, and it will show you the size of the contents. PDF's can be huge, and are sometimes hard to print as an individual print job alone.

Don't know if this is worth a shot or not. Try copying all of the files to your XP machine at your satellite office and then try doing your printing on the files you copied. May not be the right answer but it's worth a try.

That may help but users will not agree with doing that all the time.....

Adobe has a tendency to want to print at 1200 dpi and higher.
Change your print settings so that graphics are optimized but not high detail, turn down print resolution to around 150.
If you're still having print problems, use Acrobat Distiller to redistill the document and customize the settings by choosing e-book and Customize Print settings to a compression of 125 & 200.

I've printed MASSIVE PDF folders this way on an HPLJ5.
