Printing Slow with XP SP2

By joeglazebrook ·
I have network PC's running a combination of NT 4.0, XP SP1a, and XP SP2. When Printing to a HP Laserjet 5000 (also networked), the XP SP2 PC's printing can take upto 5 mins to start printing. but when printing on a XP SP1 or NT PC it takes a matter of seconds to start printing.

any suggestions would be most helpfull.

Msot likely print spooling is the issue.

Change the mode to RAW and see if yout get better results.

i wonder if it truly is a sp2 problem.
my ideas:
look for a newer driver on hp website
write down exact steps to reproduce (do print test pages take long to start as well as Word docs?)
how is this printer networked? smb? (hooked to another computer?) IP? (has a nic in the printer)
look at a xp sp1 working computer, examine the port type and driver used for that printer, compare to non working computer
examine event log on bad computer
turn off firewall for a test on bad computer for a test. login on bad computer as administrator and print for a test
