Printing to DOS from Windows XP

By jkey ·
What steps can I take to print from DOS apps to a network printer using the Windows XP operating system?
Whenever I try to print from the DOS screen, I get a message asking me for user name and password. Please help.

You should map the device to lpt1. Use the NET USE command. something like:

run NET USE to see the current connections [making sure lpt1 isn't already used]

then "NET USE lpt1: \\server\shared_printer"

If you don't want to have to type that each time you log in, throw a /persistent:yes at the end.

I have tried to do this, but it asks for a user name and a password if I am not logged in as and administrator.
I need to make sure that my users have access to the printer without giving them admin rights.

-In a domain enviroment - check permissions for that printer.
-In a pear-to-pear network add the same user account on the target machine.

I have found out how to use DEVCON to give my users the rights to print without having admin rights, however, I can only set up one machine at the time since I cannot send the devcon command and have it execute using Script Logic.
My guess is that the script doesn't run in time.

I have about 200 XP computers and do need all of them to be able to print through DOS. I would like to find a way to set up a script that would allow my XP users to print using DOS under XP Pro. Is there a way to do that. May be Group Policy? If so please give me instructions on how to do this.

Is there a way to enable DOS printing in XP using the Net Use command for users without admin rights? It asks for a password for those users.
