Printing to shared NT4Wks printers

By pmjones ·
We have a peer-to-peer network of NT4 workstations. One workstation has 2 parallel ports, LPT1 and LPT2.
LPT1 has a laser attached, LPT2 a dot-matrix.
We use a legacy DOS application, which runs fine under NT but is not network aware.
We need to run the DOS app on the workstations withOUT printers, and print from it to the shared printers on the other workstation.
How can we 'redirect' the LPT ports on the ones withOUT printers, so that all data sent to them goes to a shared printer?

Printing to shared NT4Wks printers

hope i could get your points. assuming that your peer sharing permission is established and that the wks A with printers have been shared out.
at the wks B without the printer, double click on the add printer icon, select network printer, the at the next screen (near the bottom of the dialog box) remember to capture the network printer port (which will 'map' it to your local lpt1 at B).

There is no such 'capture' option in NT - that's in 9x.

net use LPt1: \\wks1\printer /Persistant:yes

run that on WKS 2 from the command prompt and install the proper print drivers.

Hope that helps
