printing trouble with Outlook Express

By Rkmaclean ·
I have a computer with Internet Explorer by AOL on it. The person uses Outlook express and when we go to use the print under the file menu, nothing happens. I'm thinking that the path is not correct for outlook express for the printer is not correct but I don't know where to look. It prints fine under every other application and it prints from the web browser with no trouble.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Thanks, Rob

Aol takes over most of the printer controls, do you right click and print or go to file print? If you use file print it should give you a dialog box that will let you choose the printer. Try going to the start menu while outlook is open and then go to settings and printers. Select your printer and do a test page. If this works there is something wrong with the outlook program. The printer works with every thing else so it has to be the program. Try removing outlook and reinstalling it.

I have experienced this problem when the versions of Outlook express and Internet Explorer were out of step. I had OE4 and IE5 and clicking print in the OE toolbar would produce absolutely no result.
Hope this helps.

If you do have Internet Explorer 5.0 and Outlook Express 4.0, you will not be able to print from Outlook Express. If this is a problem that only recently appeared, you most likely recently updated your Internet Explorer from 4.0 to 5.0. A lot of theupdate programs will do that - only update I.E, and not Outlook Express.

Under the stated premise, you have two options.
Option One: If you go to "remove programs", and attempt to remove Internet Explorer 5.0, you'll be given the choice instead of simply reverting back to the previously installed version of Internet Explorer, which, in this case, should be Internet Explorer 4.0. Go ahead and do that, and your Outlook Express 4.0 will be able to print again.
Option Two: Go to the Microsoft website or download.com (or someplace else) and download the update to Internet Explorer 5.5. This will update your Outlook Express to 5.0 - and remedy your printing problem - as well as update I.E. to 5.5

Good luck
