Printing with NT 4.0 SP6

By Jeffrey Czapla ·
I am Trying to get maximum throughput printing on a NT 4.0 SP 6 machine. The type of printer is an HP 8100.I have the 8100 PCL 5E driver loaded and I can get approx. 15 pages/minute. With the 5si drivers loaded i can reach 20 pages/minute To get maximum throughput on this type of printer you need to run ECP. Unfortunately ECP is not supported in NT 4.0. If anyone has any suggestions for this it would be great.

Printing with NT 4.0 SP6

Hi
A couple more things you can try (depending on your environment) are:

1) use the postscript driver - it may be faster depending on what you are printing
2) ensure you have the printer properties on the NT 4 machine set to the correct amount of memory for the printer, and look at other options available in that window too. For example you may want to prevent font download or enable spooling.
3) try connecting the printer and workstation to the network, and set up as a network printer. The bandwidth through the network may be greater than through the parallel port.
