Prints some of the time.

By alicat ·
I have a computer(self built- Abit motherboard AMD 2600+) the OS is xp Home service pack 1a. My print is an HP 1120C. I can print a test page just fine. I can print anything from the internet just fine. But I can not print from Outlook 2003, Word XP,notepad,or Textpad. When trying to print from any of these the green light on the printer flashes the printhead goes thru the motions and the paper advances just like it was printing only the paper is completely blank. I have removed all drivers and reinstalled them, only one printer and driver is installed and will test print fine. There are no resourse conflicts. The printer is connected thru Lpt1: and the cable is in excellent condition. I am sure there is some setting in windows or Office (Office xp pro is installed) that is the problem but I can not fing it. Your help please.

when you say you can print a test page, would that be a Windows test page or a printer (self)test page?
did you look this up in support at www.hp.com?

You have come upon the "hidden" cost of upgrading to XP.

Many printers and scanners are NOT fully supported by XP.

My personal rule of thumb for hardware and XP is to check if the manufacture offers a driver for XP.
If not, assume you will need to replace the printer.

According to HP, the 1120 is NOT supported by Windows XP.

That said, you might try installing the Windows 2000 driver and crossing your fingers.

Still, your "best" option is to get a newer printer.

I am not sure how to respond:
Answer # 1 I printed the test page from windows xp by going to print, properties, print test page.

Answer # 2 The HP 1120C is supported by XP it is found on boot up and loads the driver (plug n play) automatically. I will print fine from XP when on the Net using IE 6. I can print pictures using vueprint. I can not print from word, excel, notepad or textpad and I would guess anyother office program or text editor.
Thanks for trying to help.
