Privacy for messenger

So, basically, my friends in Russia are experiencing a local turmoil. The government wants to ban Telegram — one of the best messengers in my opinion — and people want to avoid it at all costs. They consider using VPN. I understand that most will look at lists like that https://10best-vpn.com/ and use whatever they find attractive. But I'm interested in what you think about that? What is the best way to ensure private and secure messaging?

Thanks.

There're many ways to do it but the most popular is VPN. I read a lot about it on http://topsecur.com/vpn/vpn-guide/ and after that I was sure that's what I need

Since all data, if you're on BES, goes through BES it is probably a good idea to assume all of it is accessible by the admin.

it depends on what you choose.

In my opinion, people will think about a new messenger. Some messengers considered in the article https://www.reddit.com/r/conspiracy/comments/8zuu6o/looking_for_internet_protection_best_messengers/
Everyone can choose what they want.

You can use VPN for sure in order to continue using Telegram, but there are other good messengers that can replace it. They're end-to-end encrypted and you may be calm about your security. Try Signal or Wire, I'm sure you'll like it.

I have heard about this problem and I think that Telegram added a built-in VPN in the new version. It still doesn't work?

VPN

Personally I think VPN is a good way out. From my experience the best and the most reliable once are Express VPN and Pure VPN. There is also a newcomer on the market - Cargo VPN. I've been using it for a few months already and it covers all my needs for now.
