Problem adding network printer

by msavignac . Updated 22 years, 12 months ago

Hi everyone,

When I try to add a network printer under to a Windows XP SP1 user, I receive an error message saying :

The strategy in in place on the computer prohibit you to connect to the printer queue.

In French it’s exactly : Une strat?gie en place sur votre ordinateur vous emp?che de vous connecter ? cette file d’attente d’impression. Contactez votre administrateur syst?me.

All my users are in the local group Power Users on the machine. They should be able to connect to the printer queue without problems…

I found a workaround by changing the Load/Unload device drivers right in Local Security Policy administrative tool to give this right to Power Users. But my main question is :

Why it’s possible to add a network printer with Windows 2000 without changing the local policy settings but not in Windows XP ??? I did not change any security setting on the machine.

Your reply will be gratly appreciated,
