This question needs more info to be able to answer.
Your problem can depend upon several things.
The two things I can think of is issues with your firewall and a missing statement in your sendmail.cf file containing the configuration for your sendmail.

The sendmail.cf will need to have a few configuration lines for MTA (Mail Transfer Agents).

Please check to se that SMTP traffic is allowed through your firewall.

I highly recommend you to use procmail. Sendmail is a bit too bulky.

To use procmail:
1. Is Procmail on Your System?
type procmail -v
2. Set Up Your Procmail Files for Testing
pico -w .procmailrc
-----------------------------------
PMDIR=$HOME/Procmail
LOGFILE=$PMDIR/pmlog
MAILDIR=$HOME/Msgs # Make sure this directory exists!
INCLUDERC=$PMDIR/rc.testing
INCLUDERC=$PMDIR/rc.subscriptions
-----------------------------------
cd
mkdir Procmail
cd Procmail
pico rc.testing
-----------------------------------
:0:
* ^Subject:.*test
IN-testing

-----------------------------------
3. Check File Types and Set File & Directory Permissions
4. Test Your Procmail Setup

Hope this helps.

For starters you need to register a domain.
Then you (or you isp, your domain registering party has to setup a mx record pointing to your external ip adress.

You won't be able to receive email if this is not done.

If you need more help , sent me an email.
