Problem Issue: Netscape Admin Server 3.5

By chris.bianchi ·
We are running Netscape Proxy Server 3.5 with Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 SP4 on a Compaq Proliant 1200 Server.

Netscape Proxy Service has no noted issues.

When accessing the Proxy Access logs via Admin Server, Admin Server tends to fail. Dr. Watson displays an exception violation in viewacc.exe.

After this happens, I attempt to stop the NS Admin Server Service. The service does not respond to the stop call, although the "Started" display disappears. When attempting to restart the Service, a message appears stating that "The service is already started".

The only fix noted, thus far, is a restart of the Server.

I have attempted reinstallation of the Netscape software, and I have applied all applicable NS Administration Server "SurfPacks" available for this platform.

Netscape Proxy 3.5 viewacc.exe error

by mbrumbaugh In reply to Problem Issue: Netscape A ...

I have observed this same error on our Server with an NT 4.0 network. Did you ever find a solution?

I help administer this Network at a small private school and have another problem. I need to configure the server to allow direct access to a remote server at an external Library. They have a specific Port number that I need to set access for. Any suggestions on the best method to use in the Proxy Server.

It turned out that our problem resulted in a bad log file. Even after replacing the server with an upgrade, the error still occured. It appears this may be a flaw in 3.5 of Admin Server from iPlanet (formerly Netscape's Administration Server).

Deleting the log file when it became too large manually fixed the problem.

I have the same problem at a school I work for...I found a tip that said you need to use basic authentication for netscape as well as integrated for IE. I tried this & it did not work. I am also using Cyber Patrol filter...they are working on it buthaven't heard back. Check out this URL:
