Problem loading setup files from xp disc

By dfn9999 ·
I have identical ibm netvista computers, one with a problem. I am attempting to install xp from cd. The problem one will get to the blue setup screen but does not load files after that. I know its not the disc nor the cd-rom drive because I've interchanged parts and discs and the other one works fine after doing so. Any suggestions?

Re: Problem loading setup files from xp disc

Your "MBR" (Master Boot Record) is corrupt that is why it not installing.
You will need to fully format your disk. To do this download a Linux disk (this will write to disk differently) and install it, when finished install your Windows disk. Hope this helps you.
The faster way is to purchase a Linux mag at your local newsagent.

Please post back if you have anymore problems or questions.

Perhaps the one with the problem, has all the interchanged parts that don't work!

Since the other system works maybe you could swap all the parts back again?

Or perhaps give some thought to the hard drive as a possible culprit.

Without a detailed spec of these identical computers, I'm only guessing.

Well the easy way to test the hardware is with the

Ultimate Boot CD

Now if the system is not rebooting from the first Blue Screen you need to look at either the HDD or the HDD Controller on the M'Board being faulty so drop in the Ultimate Boot CD and test the HDD and Controller if it fails the test remove the HDD fit to the other Identical Computer and Test Again. If it still fails the HDD is Faulty. If it passes on the second Computer the M'Board in the first is faulty or just maybe the Data Lead to the HDD is faulty.

However if the system reboots after the initial copying files and then comes up with a error message that such & such a File was corrupt and this can change with the same computer and different attempts to install the OS you have some faulty RAM inserted on the M'Board.

Even if the RAM is OK it's possible that if some new RAM was installed to this computer that there are Timing Issues causing a RAM Failure to accrue. SO have you added any RAM to this System? If so remove it and try again and see if you can load the system now.

Of course it's much faster to just test the RAM from the UBCD but if you want to waste time & effort try changing one bit at as Time with the Working Computer untiil you find the faulty part.

Are both computers

On the same BIOS? If you look at the boot up for both is the Bios the same, like A07 or Award 1.07.05? If not try flashing the BIOS and see if that helps.
Is there any extra add on's one the computer? Like extra cards, USB external drives, extra video card or sound card? If so remove them and try again.
K.I.S. keep it simple
