Problem opening Office 97 files

I have a user running Windows 98 and Office 97 who for some reason can't open her Office files that are saved on a network drive. The Office app stops responding. If those same files are copied to the local drive they open fine. Why? Any thoughts? Thanks.

well the reason 1 may be the server doesnt have office 97 installed on it for the user to open the file from there by double clicking. Or may be the format of the file is different for example some are saved as rich text file etc. Do lemme know if you have office 97 on the server.

First check to make sure the user has permissions to use this file. Many times it is network permissions that cause these problems. Next, in excel there is a area under the Tools menu called options - there is a tab called general. Under this tabthere is a area for settings make sure the "ignore other applications" is deselected. Some times the registry has to be edited also.
