Problem: PCs have multiple UNC path connections to other PCs

by jveldsma . Updated 18 years, 10 months ago

I have a particular problem that I’m trying to solve. I have about 20 networked pcs, most are running xp pro, a couple running windows 2000/xp home. Most of the users have admin privaleges, some are plain users. We are not running a Domain controller.

Several pc’s will have multiple unc connections to folders/shares on other pcs. So, if I’m at one of the pcs, I go to My Network Places and I see 5 to 20 “network places” – unc connections to shares other pcs in my network. Ex: “f on pc1, which is \\pc1\f

None of the connections were made by the user and anti virus scans come up clean (although we’re using CA etrust).

One computer that has mapped drives to a server will, within a day or two, have multiple drive mappings to that same server.

any suggestions woudl be very helpful.
