There will be an error message when error appears that will have an number,it could be that your dial-up networking is corrupt or the ISP and modem are not communicating

Check with the ISP to make sure that no probems exist on there end first. To check from your end, first make sure that password authenication is not corrupt or incorrect,or case sensitive

To check the Dial-Up Networking, open the Control Panel,double-click the Add/Remove Windows icon, click the Windows Setup tab, remove the check from Dial-Up Networking, save the changes but donot reboot computer, now return to Windows Setup and enable Dial-Up networking, save the changes and reboot computer,if this does not correct the problem then check to make sure that protocols are setup correctl

Might have to address this as a hardware problem. Try changing the phone cable going to the modem. If that doesn’t help, try a different modem card. If you have the same problem, might want to ask your phone company to check for line noise. Has anything changed with your setup (software or hardware) since this started happening?

Depending on what type of error message you are receiving, (678, etc) The first thing that you would want to do is recreate the dialer. If this doesn’t change anything then see if you can actually query the modem in Phone and Modem Options and Diagnostics. If you can query the modem just fine and with no errors then you can also try an Initialization string such as ATZ on the Advanced tab and it does need to be capitalized. Restart the computer and try again and whether it works or not the ATZ reset string will need to be removed shortly thereafter. If this doesn’t work you can try a variety of Initialization strings that you’ll be able to find at http://www.modemhelp.net and they’ll be listed by manufacturer. This is usually either going to be adriver issue or an OS issue.
