Problem setting home networking

by liongsh . Updated 24 years, 5 months ago

Hi,

Intended to connect 2x computer together. But have not able to setup successfully.

Below is the details
====================
PC1 – win ME (dual boots – win 2000 server)
PC2 – win 98 (dual boots – win 2000 adv server)

Used 3Com EtherLink III ISA (3C509b-Combo) with 1x crossover cable

The default setting after booting up the system will be- client for microsoft networks
– TCP/IP
– 3Com EtherLink III ISA (3C509b-Combo)

Added service – File and printer sharing for microsoft networks
Edited the TCP/IP – PC1 (169.254.0.1)
– PC2 (169.254.0.2)

Primary Network Logon – Windows Logon/Client for Microsoft Networks
Which logon should I choose? If chosen Client for Microsoft Networks, what user name & password should I use when promte at startup for ‘Enter Network Password’??

The others have remained unchange.

So what is the reason causing the connection btw the 2 pc. Could only see itself but not the other in the network Neighbourhood.
Could it be the 3Com EtherLink III ISA (3C509b-Combo)causing problem??
