problem with Amd Cool And Quiet
Lockedby samuil_alexov · about 17 years, 2 months ago
I have an Acer Aspire 5100 mounting an AMD Turion Mobile x64 TL-50 Dual Core.My OS is Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit.I want you to help me disabling Cool And Quiet. When the power settings are all at max and i need cpu speed the processor still runs on 800 MHz and not 1600 that is the max. I tryed everything the last BIOS version doesn’t have an option to disable cnq.I uninstalled the cpu drivers but it installs them automatically even if i delete them from the system32/DRIVER folder.I tryed installing various tools for the cpu speed but it won’t let me install them as they doesn’t have a Signed driver.I’m desparated pls help me as soon as u can!!!

You can get false readings depending on how you check …
by older mycroft · about 17 years, 2 months ago
In reply to problem with Amd Cool And Quiet
Since the CPU in the Acer has the capability to throttle-back until required, you can be guilty of ‘setting everything to max’ but then checking the processor speed while it is NOT actually doing anything substantial.
Try starting a graphically intensive game (maybe something you know tends to run slow – the processor will be running a max capability then) then hit the Windows key to get back to your desktop.
NOW check what speed the processor is running at! 🙂

Your original post asked how to remove Cool and Quiet
by rob miners · about 17 years, 2 months ago
In reply to Nothing to do
Have you installed it and it is not showing. Or are you asking how to install it.
Some applications in Add/Remove Programs list are missing Change and Remove buttons ?
When you open Add/Remove Programs applet and click an application entry, you may notice that the Change, Remove (or Change/Remove) buttons may be missing, thus leaving only the application name entry there (Fig 1). Here is a method to make Windows show the Remove, Change (or the Change/Remove button together) buttons in the listing. (Fig 3)RESOLUTION
Click Start, Run and type REGEDIT. This starts the Registry Editor. Navigate to:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
\SOFTWARE
\Microsoft
\Windows
\CurrentVersion
\Uninstall
\here is Cool and Quiet – Taken as an example In the right-pane, do the following:
Double-click NoRemove (REG_DWORD) and set it to 0
Double-click NoModify (REG_DWORD) and set it to 0If NoRemove is set to 1, the Remove button will be unavailable
If NoModify is set to 1, the Change button will be unavailableFinal result is you’ll get the Change and Remove buttons back (Or, the Change/Remove button together)

In reply to Your original post asked how to remove Cool and Quiet
Cool n Quiet is a function of the AMD CPU and it goes even if you don’t install the Cool And Quiet AMD software it only needs the processor drivers.I don’t have it neither in the registry.I need you to give me other solutions please.
Thanks for the help guys i really apritiate that 😛
I think the solution might be in :
-setting a registry value that disables the power options.
-setting a registry value that disables CNQ
-permanently uninstall the processor drivers and disable the automatic install by windows
-get something like custom bios if they exist 😀
-3rd party program that disables CNQTell me what do you think and how to do it , thanks in advance and to the other ppl that already tryied to help me

can’t overclock it as it would probably melt. If you follow these instructions it may or may not give you extra performance. If you really want to play highend games get a PC.

You can try this
by rob miners · about 17 years, 1 month ago
In reply to AAAAAAAAA
to change from ACPI to STD
Select “My Computer” with the right mouse button.
Select “Properties”.
Choose the “Hardware” tab.
Click the “Device Manager” button.
Select the entry under “Computer” with the right mouse button. If it says “Standard PC”, then there’s no need to do anything.
Select “Properties”
Click the “Update Driver” button.
Choose “No, not this time” and click “Next”.
Choose “Install from a list” and click “Next”.
Choose “Don’t search” and click “Next”.
Click “Next”.
Choose “Standard PC” and click “Next”.
Continue clicking “Next” and reboot.< It could end up a one way street.>

What is the problem?
by computercookie · about 17 years, 1 month ago
In reply to problem with Amd Cool And Quiet
are you trying to say that when there is a demand for services that the CPU won’t step- up or that when you’re goofing around and there is no demand you decide explore these settings hoping to wreck the laptop?
You haven’t even described what power settings you’re using currently! If you want to halve your battery life keep on exploring>

I think you are suffering from Acute Hysteria …
by older mycroft · about 17 years, 1 month ago
In reply to problem with Amd Cool And Quiet
Having reviewed your initial post again, indeed the rest of the thread and ALL your insistent answers, I reckon that you are hysterical about this ‘problem’.
I am particularly curious as to how you can be so emphatic that my initial suggestion has already been tried and failed. What EXACTLY were you running in order to check the CPU under heavy conditions?
I have been using an Acer Aspire 1363 for three years now: it has an AMD Sempron 3000+ which under load runs at 1800MHz, throttled back it runs at 800MHz.
I’ve just checked CPUID while the Acer is running it’s AVG system scan. The CPU is currently running in both modes ~1800MHz/800MHz~ while AVG is scanning the HDD. I’ve just seen it run at 1600, 1400, 600, 400, right down to 0.6MHz.
I suspect that whatever method you used for checking the speed of your AMD CPU, you never gave it sufficient time or chance to return a viable result! – I am watching the CPU speed throttle back and increase and throttle back as I type!
I would also add that in 3 years I have never witnessed any AMD software that could be removed.
What you are suggesting is akin to removing Speedstep or HyperThreading from the old Pentiums.
Check it again – for longer than a couple of seconds, preferably while running an anti-virus system scan. 🙂

Odd that most sites are “How to ENABLE it”, don’t you think?

How much RAM have you got in this “AMD Turion Mobile x64 TL-50 Dual Core .. ..Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit” system ?

I have a feeling there are TWO things you have missed …
by older mycroft · about 17 years, 1 month ago
In reply to so
Now, straight off, I could be wrong about this:
1. You are running with an AMD chip that is dual-core AND 64-bit
PLUS
2. Your operating system is Vista AND the 64-bit version.
When your monitoring software reports a speed of 800MHz is that overall or per core? If it only reports the speed of the core that is being monitored, your overall speed is DOUBLE that!
Also, Vista in its 32-bit incarnation is dreadfully memory-hungry.
I don’t know why you are running the 64-bit version of Vista, but you have BARELY enough RAM to run the 32-bit version of Vista.
You should have a minimum of 4GB of RAM (that is MINIMUM!!) because 2GB of RAM has no 64-bit addresses AT ALL!
You are strangling your 64-bit system by restricting its scope to that of a 32-bit system.
No wonder it seems slow. 😉

Sorry – but I just don’t buy this entire query!
by older mycroft · about 17 years, 1 month ago
In reply to just
It seems to me that the whole scenario of which machine, which chip, which OS – none of it matters to you – all you are interested in is disabling something that most of the rest of the computer fraternity is wanting to turn on.
You’ve already admitted that the CPU speed does in fact hit 1600MHz at times – “it goes to 800 mhz after 5 6 mins that i use it and sometimes passes to 1600”.
http://techrepublic.com.com/5208-7343-0.html?forumID=101&threadID=261134&messageID=2482203
You are ignoring the fact that you are running with a chip that is double the processing capability of most users on TR, and you’re simply not interested in anything anyone offers you if it doesn’t have ALL the words that are on your little script-card.
The very fact that you apparently choose to ignore the fact you have way too little RAM tends to suggest to me you are an idiot!
This is either a wind-up, or a deliberate attempt to confabulate, or you are technically-blinkered, or just plain insane.
Whichever, I for one have had enough!! :p

In reply to Sorry – but I just don’t buy this entire query!
In your previous post, you said “about how good cnq was and how vista 64 ain’t for my lop top i don’t care.”
Sometimes, there is NO solution which will do what you want to do. People are trying to tell you this is the case in your situation, but you won’t listen. There is NO reason to get snippy just because you don’t like that answer and don’t care that your system isn’t up to the task.
Feel free to take your question elsewhere IF you think a different solution IS available. People HERE have already answered you based on their knowledge of the situation. If you have more details to add which might be relevant, feel free to post them. But, as far as we’re concerned your QUESTION HAS BEEN ANSWERED.

Cool and quiet
by dumphrey · about 17 years, 1 month ago
In reply to just
is not really disable-able. Mycroft is right about your RAM too.
I would update all your drivers (cpu and chipset primarily)from the manf.s web site (also look for bios update)and then, if that does not work, return the computer as defective. This kind o power management should just work at this point in Windows.
There is nothing to uninstall.
In the bios, look at cpu settings etc, it may not be labeled as cool and quiet, but power saving or throttling.
In windows its self, what power management settings are you using? You said max, but is that for on battery or plugged in to the wall? (2 different settings). -
