problem with computer again. lol

By stargate1121 ·
I cannot get this computer to save my passwords and it keeps deleting all my cookies. also I cannot get into my system or my hidden files.
I have a Dell Demension B110. I just re-loaded my windows XP but it's not opening the system or hidden files. Also I accidently clicked on here to not save anymore passwords. how do I change it back??
I really would like to try to do this without re-loading it again. I had to call Dell and it's a major process because they don't make this model computer anymore and I have to get some of the drivers from Dell.
Thanks
Susan

To access system and hidden files, a simple setting change needs to be done.

Open My Computer or Windows Explorer.
Open the Tools menu and select Folder Options.
Click on the View tab.
Put a dot in front of 'Show hidden files and folders.'
You can also remove the check in front of 'Hide protected operating system files' if you want.

To reset the save password function, open Internet Explorer.
Open the Tools menu and select Internet Options.
Click on the Content tab.
(this might be slightly different if you are using IE7)
Click the Auto Complete button.
Add checks where appropriate and click on the OK button.
Click on the Apply and OK buttons.

Please let me know if this resolves your issue or if I misunderstood your question.

It's always good to run into someone that can find humor in their problems. :)

Problem with Computer Again lol

I fixed the password function but there is something wrong with the other. I went into where you said and I had already gone in there to see if I could get into the hidden files and the dot to hide and not hide hidden files won't work. not sure why. it sits on show hidden files all the time and won't go back to hide the files. was told by dell that I had a virus in my computer but I ran my virus scan and went to Trend Micro and ran that and got out what was in there but it still won't work. I had to re-load my windows and now I have it again.
HELP!

It could be that pieces of the virus infection remain. If all that was done was a re-install of Windows over top, that may well be the issue. You may need to reformat and reinstall from scratch to fully resolve it.

Before you go to that drastic step, here are some Registry changes that may correct the issue:

***Warning: Performing manual changes to the Windows Registry incorrectly can make Windows inoperable. It is always advised to perform a Registry backup and setting an XP Restore point prior to making changes to the Registry.***

That being said...

Go to Start - Run (type) regedit - (right click on the little my computer icon, and export the whole thing.)

find this key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced. Go to the rightside of the window, where the values are. Find the value "Hidden" . Rightclick it and modify it to 1.

This following text is from my own registry. Copy all of the text between the dashed lines and paste it into Notepad, next rename the notepad file's extension (.txt), so it has the extension .reg ,and then doubleclick it.
(NOTE: if you do not see the file's three letter extension, go to My Computer - Tools - Folder Options and remove the check in front of 'Hide extensions for known file types' and click Apply):

Have I tried what yet CaptBilly?? I did try to fix the password problem and it works fine now, but getting into the hidden and system files won't work, so I'm going to let them go for awhile, since I don't get into those files very often anyhow.

I don't do a lot of stuff with the registry. I'm not real good with that. the other stuff I do pretty good with as long as I don't have to get into the registry.

The Capt'n got the right idea

The previous answer should get you going in the right direction.
I can't believe someone from NECHE is on the internet. My family originated from the area, Neche and Pembina. Douville was the original name.

Hello from Neche

by stargate1121 In reply to The Capt'n got the right ...

hmmm. that is interesting. figured no one had heard of Neche. actually we live about 9 miles north of Cavalier. we're about half way between Cavalier and Neche out in the country.I love it up here. It's so quiet.
