First thing to check is if the term NoFolderOptions appears in the registry. If not post back.

NoFolderOptions
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

Data type Range Default value
REG_DWORD 0 | 1 0

Description
Removes the Folder Options item from all Windows Explorer menus and removes the Folder Options item from Control Panel. As a result, users cannot use the Folder Options dialog box.

This entry stores the setting of the Remove the Folder Options menu item from the Tools menu Group Policy. Group Policy adds this entry to the registry with a value of 1 when you enable the policy. If you disable the policy or set it to Not configured, Group Policy deletes the entry from the registry and the system behaves as though the value is 0.

Value Meaning
0 (or not in registry) The policy is disabled or not configured. The Folder Options item appears.
1 The policy is enabled. The Folder Options item is removed.

Many problems can be fixed simply by re-registering Shell32.dll, which stores information about Windows' interface and is used to open files and Web pages. For example, re-installing this DLL will restore JPEG or GIF image previews under the Desktop tab of the Display Properties dialog box (right-click the desktop and choose Properties
to see this dialog). It can also repair the ability to launch the Create Shortcut Wizard (right-click the desktop and choose New, Shortcut
), as well as the double-click behavior of folder icons, which is easily corrupted.

To restore this DLL, choose Start, Run
, type regsvr32 /i shell32.dll, and press <Enter>. (The /i switch stands for "install.") A message tells you if the command worked. (You may need to restart Windows to see the effect.)

Open folder in same window

by greg.rise In reply to

I have tried ten other suggestions including a lot of registry tips to try to fix this problem. This was the only one that worked to revert to open folder in same window.

Click Start button, click Run, type (or paste) the following command
in the Open box (Note: the spaces before and after /i are important
here)
Regsvr32.exe /i shdocvw.dll - press ENTER, wait a few seconds (maybe
more like 20 seconds depending on your system). You should see a
dialog box that says "Registerserver and dllinstall in shdocvw
succeeded". Press OK then reboot the system.

If anyone?s still having trouble, here?s a fix that worked for me after I got the RavMon virus:

1. Click ?Start? -> ?Run?? (or press Windows key + R)
2. Type ?regedit? and click ?Ok?.
3. Find the key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder\Hidden\SHOWALL
4. Look at the ?CheckedValue? key? This should be a DWORD key. If it isn?t, delete the key.
5. Create a new key called ?CheckedValue? as a DWORD (hexadecimal) with a value of 1.
6. The ?Show hidden files & folders? check box should now work normally. Enjoy! :)
