Problem with installing question

By danamero ·
I just was asked a question and just wanted to know what you guys think. What is the problem with installing software in the default directory? I can think of a few reasons, such as better organization of applications, and for network installation. Just looking for ideas.

I have no problem with it... as long as it makes sense; and it does try to bury it under like 30 sub folders.

I often don't use the default folder.

1. I have multiple drives set up, and I use my drive for application software.

2. I try to have major program folders follow the old DOS 8/3 name convention.

3. I don't need to have programs nested multiple folders deep inside the Program Files folder.

I have run across a few programs that will not work if installed in anything other than the default folder.
Apparently, the paths for files used by the program are hard coded in the software.
