Problem with IR Port

I have an HP Omnibook 2100, WIN98SE. I have enabled the IR port. When I try to transfer some files to my DELL AXIM 100, the infrared icon on the tray keeps going ‘ON’ and OFF every few seconds.Strange because there are no obstructions in between andthe ports are clean as well. Anybodt face this problem?
